Berkshire Custom Cedar Homes Inducted in Lindal Founder's Circle
Becket, Mass., July 29th, 2007 Sir Walter Lindal, founder and chairman emeritus of Lindal Cedar Homes, honored Harold and Sonia Kobrin of Berkshire Custom Cedar Homes with a Lindal Founder's Circle Award today at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, Mass. Lindal told how he founded the company 62 years ago and shared highlights of the history of the largest manufacturer of custom cedar homes in the world.
"In 20 years as a top Lindal dealer, Harold Kobrin, one of our longest-term regional partners, has sold hundreds of homes in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York," said Lindal, who came to the Berkshires from Lindal headquarters in Seattle. "This building expert and his team have been responsible for punctuating mountains and fields, ponds and farms with homes featuring Lindal's signature expanses of glass and long spans of open space permitted by our post and beam building system. We can achieve such architectural silhouettes because posts, not interior walls, support a roof's weight,"added Lindal, who, at 88, still loves his work.
Kobrin has also won numerous Lindal awards, such as the Designer of the Year, and has been inducted into the firm's most prestigious President's Club and yearly in its Premier Club.
"Many people have never built a home before and would like a coach to help them through some or all of the design and building processes," said Kobrin. "At Berkshire Custom Cedar Homes, our expertise and passion is to help homebuyers translate their lifestyles into a home. We know we provide an essential service in what is an expensive and complicated procedure.
"In addition, we have an advantage over others in the business: We have the backing of an international company, Lindal Cedar Homes, that has honed the design and building process for top-notch efficiency. There's hardly a challenge headquarters hasn't already met and solved. The company also has access to the highest quality building products, such as, kiln dried western red cedar, typically unavailable at local lumberyards. This weather and insect-resistant wood provides exceptional insulation and feels and looks like custom furniture.
"We also have a new 272-page hard cover Lindal plan book, Living Dreams, illustrated with Lindal's home stylesclassic, contemporary and traditional. It includes 90 floorplans and features homes ranging in size from 1,202 square foot cottages to 5,800 square foot estates." The book costs $20 plus $5 postage and handling and can be ordered on line at www.lindal.com. It is also available at Berkshire Custom Cedar Homes' office, 59 Otis Road/Rte 8, Becket.
